Coulrophobia

Not everyone loves clowns.  In fact there are people who are afraid of them.  So many so that there is an actual name for the fear of clowns - Coulrophobia.

It is suggested that the makeup of the clown, and the fact that it hides someone's identity, is what causes the fear. 

That, and the fact that there are several horror movies out there based on the idea of an evil clown.  If you want to develop Coulrophobia, try watching these:

 

Evil Clowns

There are many examples of evil clowns in real life and in fiction:

1. John Wayne Gacy, a.k.a. "Killer Clown", was a serial killer who raped and murdered 33 men and boys and buried them in his basement, all while dressed as Pogo the Clown.
2. There's the Joker, villain in the Batman comic books & Tringle, villain in the Superman comic books.
3. Clown dolls try to strangle people in the movies Poltergeist, Ghoulies & Saw, and in the video games Alone in the Dark 2 & Twisted Metal,
4. There's Krusty the Klown, whose evil doesn't go as far as murder.  The Simpsons also coined the phrase, "Can't Sleep . . . Clown will eat me".
